Keep your eyes open and trained on a specific object (not a person or animal, but something ordinary) and relax your hands until they’re flat against you. Then take slow, purposeful breaths - count to ten, hold for three seconds, and slowly release your breath. Move to another object in the room and repeat the practice. By picking out random objects in the room or wherever you may be is to focus your brain on that object and if you can, say these words as you go “(apple) will not hurt me.â€, “(door) will not hurt me.â€, and so on, and remember to take deep breaths while you do it. Keep your eyes open! Eventually you will feel calm and the flashbacks have left.
