99% of the things that happen to us are because of our own actions . You know , like newton's 3rd law of motion - every action has an equal and opposite reaction . My personal opinion is that the world works on the concept of karma , you can give it different names like some say that the universe works on irony . Whatever we do , good or bad comes back to us in some way or the other .

God does not let bad things happen to us. He let's us make decisions that lead to bad things. Trust me, I've been there.

There are many proposed answers to that question. Nobody is sure of which one is the definite answer, but here is what I believe based on what I've read and analyzed, phrased in a way that is not particular to any religion if any.. Bad things happen because they have to. They balance out life. If everything that happened to us was good, there would no longer be good because there's no bad to which to compare it. Bad things make us appreciate the good, and it gives life meaning. A lot of the answer depends on your personal belief system, but this is my opinion that I think can be applied universally.

Some times tragedies are just blessings in disguise. Perhaps we needed to meet certain obstacles to learn and grow as a person. There's always two ways to view a situation, we're so focused on the negative that we forget there's a positive as well.

I struggled with this question for ages! The only justification I can think of is that suffering allows us to grow as people. It allows us to see who we really are; our faults, strengths, passions. Without hardship, where would we be? What would shape us? I mean, nothing cracks the whip and begs change better than disappointment and pain. Though, thats just my opinion :)

We can only learn from bad situations and things. And we can only appreciate the good things, when we had experienced wrong things and stressful situations.

no one really knows why it happens but certain bad things can be good for us. Have you ever heard the quote 'without pain how could we know joy?' by John Green. Its pretty true. Bad things make the good things better. If there were no bad things then everything good will seem like the norm and boring. If there were no bad things and you won the lottery you wouldn't have much of a reaction. the world would be bland. So its more to keep a balance

Why do bad things happen to good people? I'm sick of hearing the "G-d's divine plan" explanation to be honest. The REAL answer to this question simply doesn't exist. People suffer undeservedly, and any moral person would be bothered by that. The real answer lies within ourselves: we have the power to help those that suffer, and if there IS a G-d, he made it so that WE can alleviate it/prevent it.
As long as the pain of innocents remains a burning question, we are bothered by its existence. And as long as we can't explain pain, we must alleviate it. If innocent people suffering does not fit into our worldview, we must eradicate it. Rather than justifying their pain, we need to get rid of it.
So keep asking the question, why do bad things happen to good people. But stop looking for answers. Start formulating a response. Take your righteous anger and turn it into a force for doing good. Redirect your frustration with injustice and unfairness and channel it into a drive to fight injustice and unfairness. Let your outrage propel you into action. When you see innocent people suffering, help them. Combat the pain in the world with goodness. Alleviate suffering wherever you can.
We don't want answers, we don't want explanations, and we don't want closure. We want an end to suffering. And we dare not leave it up to G-d to alleviate suffering. He is waiting for us to do it. That's what we are here for.

Bad things happen to us because they do. I've never once found an actual reason, and I'm sorry because looking for one is very easy. I'm sure if you have found a reason for your bad thing what ever it may be that there is some truth behind your finding. I don't want to sound pessimistic or discredit anyone who believes in a reason behind adversity, but I can only tell you that I have never found such a reason.
