You start slowly. Try listening to the songs that reminds you of the person you were, reading the old books, catch up with good old friends. Travel to an unknown place and try behaving the way you used to. It is not easy and it will take a lot of time. Have patience, Believe in Yourself.

One of my teachers used to say: "History advances in three stages: Thesis, antithesis, and synergy". Even if the things you needed to cope with have disappeared, you are not longer the same person you were. You've learned and you have grown, at least as much as is required to change who you are in order to cope with new things. The things you've learned will stay with you - you can't forget them. But you can change back the things you don't like about who you've become. You can incorporate the things you've learned with what you used to be, and become a better person than you ever were. Not the same person you used to be, not what you changed into to cope, but better, wiser and stronger than both.

This question can mean so many things. I have dissociative identity disorder, so I go through this pretty regularly. I have found hypnotherapy to be the best thing for me to help along with my integration therapy.

Take time out from it all. Step back, remember to breathe, self-assess, re-evaluate. Work out what the turning point was.

Its a really slow road back. Start by doing some small things you used to do. Pleasurable things you used to really enjoy. Do not put pressure on yourself. Bit by bit and slow and steady. You will start to build confidence and gain familiarity in the old things you used to do.
