I still find myself slipping in a dark place occasionally, but I now have the tools to cope a lot better. Plus I have the support of a good partner and I really think that helps. So, my answer is that many people might well always have some level of depression, but they will learn to cope with it. It does get better. Please remember that.

you won't, depression won't go away suddenly but it will slowly fade away, it maybe doesn't look like it, but it really does
