Feeling at ease is a something you decide.
Depression is just a tag for confusion and lack of ability on managing your own emotions.
Becoming aware of your emotions and learning to embrace them as they are is the key to find ease.

I still find myself slipping in a dark place occasionally, but I now have the tools to cope a lot better. Plus I have the support of a good partner and I really think that helps. So, my answer is that many people might well always have some level of depression, but they will learn to cope with it. It does get better. Please remember that.
