Depression is not something that one can easily "get over". It a clinical disorder, and often requires more than simply medical help for an individual to be able to cope effectively with it. Depression can feel all encompassing and overwhelming, whilst also resulting in extreme exhaustion and numbness, which makes it harder to manage. It is often a painful journey to feel able to cope with working through it, and often exists in bouts over life. It is very common and requires persistent help in order to effectively manage it. Medical help is only one step in alleviating depression.

Because depression is a complicated disease. It is very related to the biology of our body, the way we think and the circumstances we face. It's a complex blend of causes that relate to this overwhelming darkness we feel. While medication can help improve our mood, it doesn't erase our problems. And speaking to a therapist might help some but not all. It's a complex disease which is different and unique for each individual suffering from it.

The current lifestyle is the reason why more and more people face depression. The competition, peer pressure, social media etc all these have caused a major amount of stress in our lives which eventually leads to depression. With my personal experience, a person suffering from depression needs a listening ear, a strong support system who can help them in times of struggle, because in the end, it is a person's willpower who can help them get out of depression rather than a medical help. Medical help alone is not 100% effective, the person still needs constant support from family or friends to fight it.
