Because people have no idea what a depressed person is going through, and so they feel deeply alone and afraid of speaking their mind. Being depressed is not the depressed persons fault, yet everything around them implies that it is... "pull yourself together", "think positively" etc, the guilt of not being "good enough", feeling as if they are simply too weak... it weighs them down like a tonne of bricks. This is why depression is so hard to deal with, the lack of understanding and the feeling of vast isolation and alienation from society leaves a person feeling empty and hopeless.

Being depressed puts you into a feeling of a negative state. If this is not identified quickly it can become quite serious and cause other thoughts to occur. For example, you may not have a lot of confidence or something has happened in the past that makes you come to a stand still when you feel depressive feelings arising. If possible, try to nip it in the bud. Do something nice for yourself or spend some time with positive people. Try to avoid anyone that drags you down or doesn't have faith or belief in you. You've got this - I know you do !
