Depression can magnify things that may seem small. It can make a small annoyance a big annoyance. It may be helpful to recognize that depression is exaggerating the annoyance for the time being.

When you're depressed, your mind jumps back to things that maybe up to this point you've been trying to forget. A lot of the time, when we think of things we don't really want to, it does make us depressed. Other than that, when we are depressed our minds feed on our imperfections and they can make you feel worse than you already do

Sometimes the weight of everything combined can feel like a handful. Think, if you offered to carry a friend's backpack it wouldn't be that heavy-but if you carried 10 friend's backpacks it's suddenly much heavier. Add more, and you may not be able to walk. Just remember this too shall pass.

Irritability is one of the symptoms of depression. When you're not in a such a depressive negative state, it seems much more easy to let go of the little things that irk you but don't prevent you from you living your life.
From my personal experience, when I've felt depressed, I've found myself losing patience with situations, including with the people around me. It's kinda like the story of the "Princess and the Pea" where the pea at the bottom of all those mattresses still manages to keep me wide awake and aggravated despite my best attempts to ignore it.

Depression can magnify your feelings of hopelessness, stress and mess with your sleep cycles. All of these can decrease your ability to just let small things go, and they build and everything can begin to bother you.

When happy, one doesn't notice small annoying things. That little thing that didn't annoy you in the past might become a huge deal now, because a depressed person focuses on negative things and suddenly the smallest things feel like the biggest.

When you are depressed, from my experience, you just become so tired. Everything takes so much energy and you just don't care enough to do anything. Sometimes we lash out to hide what we're really feeling inside. (For example, you might get annoyed at someone asking how you're feeling). Many times we use anger as a method of coping when we don't want to deal with larger issues or complex emotions such as depression, or guilt, or hurting. It's easier to blame the world around you for the way you're feeling sometimes then think constructively and find ways to fix your depression. It could also just be a lack of sleep, healthy eating, or exercise.
