People think this because they don't understand. They haven't been through what you are. Just ignore them.

Sometimes people around you can't deal with things they din't understand, like depression. It can be scary for people, and they feel the need to rationalize it in some way. Saying that it's only for attention is a way of doing that.

They probably have never had depression themselves, so they don't understand that you're not trying to get attention.

Some people just don't understand depression. It hurts when no one understands what you are feeling. I wish everyone could understand that no one with depression is doing it for attention; it would make getting help so much easier.

Because they never feel what you feel, pe just because they like to see you in this situation. Just try to show they that you really need help or just tell someone who you trust the most and ignore the rest of peoples.

Perhaps the people that think this never have experienced depression, maybe you can share pamphlets with them if it is appropriate.

Mabye people think that because they really dont understand what depression is :) Try , for instance , explaining to them what depression is and what a serious issue can become without the proper help :)

Maybe they, themselves are lonely and looking to bring up others to get attention. People can be insensitive about themselves and others. They may not be secure in themselves, especially if they are young or in their teens. People don't know what to believe, and sometimes believing something that is negative or not true can be a trend. The lesson is to not let other people's beliefs of you define you, as well as your disorder if you have depression. Be defined by the things that are beautiful inside, because you are beautiful.
