Why do I feel so depressed before my period?

Hormones are at a peak usually a couple of days up to a week before your period. The reason why you're depressed could be because of your general feelings towards having your period whether it's because of cramps, how long you have it or just disliking it in general. There's also a biological factor as I said before of your hormones being more active than usual as your body goes through a cleansing cycle. It's normal to go through mood swings leading up to your period as well. I go through the same thing and become angry, withdrawn and can't find the good in anything. A part of it is because I hate getting my period because of how intense my cramps get and I don't want to deal with it although I do like getting my period because it means I'm not pregnant. It could all be your mindset. Next time you get your period, try to be "ok" with it. Accept that it's coming and don't let it get you down and see if anything changes.

Hormones usually affect our normal behavior, so we may feel depressed and not having much hunger. It's very usual, but everything is going to be alright.

On one hand in body everything is opening to enable to blood comes out so as body so the soul. Lots of our emotional hidden feeling flow out as well and that makes us to have less power to resist that we actually feel them. it is the best way when to deal with shadows and face the issues. Accept the time to work on our self and make best of it. In a very far past womans what had period get away from group to spend time alone. Do not get angry on it - sink in.

I have little experience with this personally, but I know many who suffer from depression at the end of their cycle, as you do. Hormones play a part, but more so, the social stigma associated with femininity and female bodies may be a factor. We are taught to hide our menstruation, to be ashamed of it, to be repulsed by it. Don't let these toxic messages take up room in your head.

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a condition in which a woman has severe depression symptoms, irritability, and tension before menstruation. The symptoms of PMDD are more severe than those seen with premenstrual syndrome (PMS).
PMS refers to a wide range of physical or emotional symptoms that typically occur about 5 to 11 days before a woman starts her monthly menstrual cycle. The symptoms usually stop when, or shortly after, her period begins.

I'm a male so I don't have periods. If you mean period to be defined as the monthly shading of the uterine wall for reproduction... you should ask this question to women only.
