Is it when it is dark or when there are no people around? During the day there are things to do but at night there is quite time for some thoughts to come or feelings to persist. If you feel lonely then at night it can be stronger.

Normally, nighttime is a much more depressing time for people because it's a time where your body stops moving, and you can focus on your thoughts and reflect on your life. As is our nature in being human, we view the negatives in our life much clearer than the positives, so when we are left alone to think, our thoughts can become very dark.

It's dark and you just want to sleep. You're alone with your thoughts. You don't have your daytime activities to distract you. You're free with every single thought you push away during the day. Good and bad.

The world is a lot more quite and I am normally alone at night. I tend to overthink at that point in time which can make my depression worse.

Nighttime is the time where our thoughts roam free, this is just where your mind wanders. Try thinking positively and watching or thinking of something that makes you happy

Nighttime/when you're ready to go to sleep/it's dark out is when things get quiet and you're left alone with your thoughts... you may suppress those feelings and thoughts during the day where you're busy and can push away those problems, but at night they come back to haunt you because you can't move your attention onto something else...

Normally at night when you are relaxing at home or on your bed is when your mind is not thinking of work or family or anything else is when the thoughts of yourself become more apparent. During this times you will think of what you have done right and wrong in life or for that particular day this can cause depression if you didn't have such a good day. Try meditating before sleeping to prevent this thoughts.

My depression is always worse at night, the only explanation I have is that for me it's because I have nothing to focus on. I have to sleep, I have nothing else to do, and so it allows my mind to wander into very distressing thoughts and emotions. I'd often try to speak to people online, do essays, or watch videos in an attempt to avoid this happening. This led to me having sleep procrastination issues and side effects similar to insomnia. The best method for me now is to make myself too tired or peaceful for thought. I'd suggest drinking sleepy tea and reading a book for about twenty minutes, once the tea is finished i'd continue reading and then sleep when you become very tired.
