Depression is a reoccurring problem, sometimes we're not necessarily aware of what triggers are making us feel sad. Depression is often described as a chemical imbalance in our brains because we're used to feeling sad a lot, this can be a hard cycle to break.

That's basically what depression is like. Sometimes you feel depressed for a reason and you can identify it nd tell the reasons why and how you're depressed by this, but sometimes we feel depressed but we really don't know exactly why we feel like this.

Often people can feel very sad for no reason at all. Depression doesn't require a reason and it can hit anyone, regardless of age, gender, career, race, culture etc etc..Sometimes it is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It can be very difficult when you and other people want to know 'why' you feel depressed.. and can actually make you feel even worse because you feel that you 'shouldn't feel this way. Try to think of depression as you would a broken leg. You wouldnt feel like you 'shouldn't' have a broken leg.. and you would do everything you could to take care of your leg until it mended. The same is true with mental illness.

Whenever someone comes on asking this question, it usually takes me less than five minutes to find out that they have several very good reasons to be depressed. You probably don't realize that you have reasons because whatever is happening to you has come to seem normal to you because it happens all the time. It doesn't have to be anything extreme or dramatic--your parents could be having problems in their marriage, you could be stuck in a dead-end job, the people around you could be systematically disrespecting you.

Sounds like you are a teenager,so that is completely normal! It happens because of hormonal changes and you just can't control it! but one thing I find extremely helpful,is writting down every day 10 things I am greatful for. Then, when I am feelin a bit blue,I read it and it helps me so much! you could sing out loud and dance or watch comedies and even go out with your friends! you may not want to,but if you push your self, depression will vanish! hugs

Depression has been proven to have both biochemical and situational causes - meaning it can be a reaction to the chemicals in your brain (serotonin, dopamine, etc.) not reacting properly. Everything can seemingly be going right when depression strikes.

Depression is caused by the change in a brain's chemical activity resulting in low serotonin levels. So there doesn't always have to be a major cause for a person to become depressed

You don't need a reason to be depressed. You can become depressed at anytime and it's totally okay to cry randomly. Sometimes our lives are going the way we want to, everything seems perfect. Then somehow it all collapses and we are left wondering why. It's okay to feel depressed with no reason. There doesn't need to be a reason. Try and do the things you love like listening to music. If it gets to much reach out for help. You're not alone and it's okay to feel sad for no reason,

Nothing ever happens coincidentally, there is always a reason especially when it comes to emotions and feeling. You just aren't aware of the cause of your depression. Many cases its a lack of human interaction and I dont mean you daily small talk. Actually sharing what is going in your life with friends and family and connecting with them. Another reason could be a lack of self-love and self-esteem. There are numerous reasons for feeling depressed, finding the reason and accepting whatever it may be is the first step to achieving happiness. Remember, happiness comes from within the heart, not from external sources, those are otherwise temporary and conditional sources of happiness.

Let me tell you a little thing my doctor taught me when I asked why I was depressed and couldn't find a single reason why. He put humans as the following analogy : We are all a sink. For some people, the water (which represents joys) flows in very fast. It will full the sink in a short time. These are OPTIMISTS. For others, the water goes slowly, and goes out fast because the hole is simply too big. This is not your fault, it might be the chemicals in your brain or the environnement. This is kind of what happens when you are depressed. Even if the waters runs fast in, it runs fast out as well. Antidepressant are used as a plug to your sink. They fill the hole (not completely, you can still experience sadness or bad emotions). Of course, there is other ways of filling it. You probably have already learned about ways to help your depression, like doing sports, seeking a psychologist or more. After a while, your hole will be a reasonable size, and even if your water flows slowly, your sink will be fuller. So shortly, depression doesn't always have a reason, and it's okay not to know why you feel the way you do. What you must do is not to give up... ...and stay strong :)

I think sometimes we can't control when we feel depressed. Sometimes it makes literally no sense. However, it comes when it comes. It might be because of something you didn't realize you were upset by, or maybe it's a reaction to stress. It really varies from person to person.

It's actually pretty common. Sometimes, people who suffer with depression can cry at nothing, I should know. If you feel like you are in a funk and you don't know why, journaling might help you figure out some of the causes. It's a great way to compartmentalize your thoughts and figure out how to express what you don't feel comfortable saying out loud.

Sometimes random triggers could happen, you may not know they are triggers but your brain knows. These times can be hard and can often make you confused on why such a thing is happening to you. I recommend talking to someone you trust about it, tell them anything that could possibly be a trigger and see how they can help.
