The problem lies in not being able to comprehend our emotions correctly. You see, for you it is happening instantaneously, but deep down you are not able to understand your emotions and feelings which keep on piling up, until one day when it crosses the treshold and all those emotions overwhelm you causing you to think you are depressed. It is not happening all of a sudden. Try not to hold back your emotions and start respecting your feelings by acting on them.

It may be due of to underlying issues you haven't dealt with yet or it might be because of things in your life piling up. It's good to talk it through with someone you trust about how you feel instead of bottling it up.

A thought crossed my mind today about you and as I heard the Rascal Flatts song "Why" on the radio, I suddenly found myself dwelling on all of the memories I've had in my life that involved you and I'll dwell on that one blow up we had the previously July before you decided to take your own life and leave us to pick up the pieces. I want to hate you so bad for what you did to us all, but I can't because all I can do in those moments is wonder what a difference it might have made had we not both been stupid that night. I'm not a person who prays, but if I did I'd be praying our family never has to go through something like that again. All that does is create a permanent problem to a temporary solution. I just hope that someone else can learn from your mistake. 2488 always. xoxo

if you are talking about, feeling 'empty' and 'low' accompanied by feelings of 'guilt' also, chronic feelings of loneliness. Then it's depression for real. If you just feel low out of nowhere then mind that something has triggered this feeling. Observe what might cause this. Keep a diary with you and note all your emotions and the happenings that took place just before the emotion was triggered.

Depression is often caused from stress. Whether its from school, relationships, finance, life situations, etc. Depression could be accumulation of all the stress that has built up over time and has managed it self to be depression as oppose to anxiety or panic. Bad Diet/exercise could play a role, Fatty/oily foods raise cortisol levels(stress hormone) which in turn could result in depression. No exercise could lead to raised cortisol levels, as well. Taken a look at diet, exercise, stress and mental commentary(thoughts), could give yourself a good indication of where the depression is coming from.
