Sometimes, I think people oversleep because it's a good escape from reality. If this is what you're feeling, I suggest a different way! Perhaps reading? Long hours of reading is equivalent to long hours of sleeping because in both cases- you're in a different world!

The body needs to sleep to recharge itself and recover from the day. Sometimes though, the body thinks it needs to sleep more as a method to protect itself, especially if you are suffering with depression or anxiety.

There could be many reasons. Your dreams might be way better than facing reality with depression, more compelling and bringing more joy. Or depression makes you so exhausted that getting up or being awake is just too much of a hassle. Perhaps you prefer 'Sleep' over 'Living' and have no motivation to face 'Life' which is tiring and seems bland and empty or even hopeless, no matter if it's true or not. There are probably many more possible reasons, but I think most would be similar to these three.

Sleeping is great. You get to step away from life's stress and hardships for a few hours. There's nothing better than 8 hours of sweet death every night.

Excess sleep can be due to depression. Average sleep required by humans is 7-8 hours. Students also tend to feel more sleepy because their brain is tired. No one till now has been able to find the cause of sleep. But you're saying that it's your 'desire' and desires can always be controlled by willpower. Try to reduce your sleeping time and set a time when you sleep(preferably night) so that there is a routine. Have a continuous sleep and don't change the time when you sleep. You can also takw help of caffeinated drinks to keep you awake

Sometimes oversleeping is an atypical symptom of depression, particularly in mental illnesses such as Bipolar Disorder. Think about your sleeping pattern: are you sleeping too much, or in little bits at lots of different times? Have a routine and a regular bedtime that you keep to, and see if that makes you less tired during the day. If you are sleeping far more hours than normal, see your doctor, so that they can rule out things like diabetes.

Sleep can be desired for a few reasons. One reason that I seemed to have found is because your mind wants to shut down all of the bad thoughts/problems

Desire of excessive sleep could be part of not enough sleep, or enough quality sleep, or even depression. Also do you exercise regularly? What's your work/school/life balance like? Also, if you're continuing to have problems with sleep, seeing a doctor won't hurt a situation. :)
