anyone you feel comfortable with. It could be family, a friend, or even a stranger on the internet. There are many resources available, whether it's through work, school or online. I prefer to talk to someone that doesn't know my background as much when I just need to vent, but when it's about an ongoing problem that I'm really struggling with, I find it more helpful to talk to someone I have a connection with, who I can continually come back to and rely on for support.

A great place to start is a listener on 7 Cups. But if you feel that you need professional help, a therapist or counselor is another good place to start.

People who are supportive. You find out who they are by first talking to them about depression. Then, if they respond well - you keep talking to them. If not, you talk to them about other things. My therapist is awesome! She does CBT and she just totally gets it. She helped me get from lying in bed all day to being back in college and high functioning within 6 months. I find I am always surprised by who the people are in my life who really understand about depresison. My friends who were not very close turned out to be much more understanding than the friends I wanted to hang out with. My mom who is a psychologist was not very understanding at first, but after I told her repeatedly what I needed from her, she finally started to come around. She used to tell me "It's a choice! You have to just choose to be fine!" And finally I cried and said "Mom! When I call you and I'm depressed, I just need you to tell me it's going to be okay." And she learned. So it's up to you.
