One thing I like to do is to write 5 things I like about myself every morning when I wake up. It's hard at first but, you end up finding creative ways to compliment yourself like: I like that I was smart enough to put socks on last night to keep my feet warm.

When I feel depressed, I do my best to stay focused on getting through the present moment because it keeps me from getting overwhelmed thinking I will always feel depressed. Then I do whatever I can to feel better, such as listen to music, talk to a friend or distract myself by reading or spending time with my pets.

Eat well! You may be surprised how much better you will feel when you have a good diet. A walk can help too. I'm not a fitness nut, but a controlled sugar intake, good sleep, and a walk can do wonders. It won't do away with clinical depression and it doesn't magically fix any problems, but you will be stronger for it.

Dealing with depression is usually helped by three things, emotional support-from friends or in the form of therapy, exercise-something that keeps you busy for a good part of the day and sometimes medication. Sometimes a combination of any two will provide enough. It's important to talk to people who understand and can relate and to keep busy. If the depression is more than just situation related, sometimes a little temporary pharmaceutical boost can be helpful, consult a professional and know that there is no weakness or shame in asking for help, it's part of being human, we all need support now and then.
