There are several treatments available for depression. The main ones include talking therapies and medication. Medication won't work on its own because even if you are in a "lighter" mood the problems will still need to be there. Things that may help are group therapy, one to one psychotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and psycodrama. If you don't feel like talking at the moment you could always relieve stress by doing something productive like art therapy.

In addition, medication such as SSRI's, also known as antidepressants may be helpful in alleviating Depressive feelings. It's not uncommon that these two treatments may be used at the same time. The best course of treatment can be determined between you and a mental health professional.

Depends on the person...therapy, anti-depressants...I would suggest seeing a licensed psychiatrist for specific suggestions. For every day treatment, what I do is make a list of what contributes to my depression and find ways to better each situation. I find that it takes one to get the ball rolling and I'll often feel a lot better even with just a little improvement. Perhaps that will help you as well.
