Turn to trusted friends and family members. Share what you’re going through with the people you love and trust, face to face if possible. The people you talk to don’t have to be able to fix you; they just need to be good listeners. Ask for the help and support you need. You may have retreated from your most treasured relationships, but they can get you through this tough time.Try to keep up with social activities even if you don’t feel like it. Often when you’re depressed, it feels more comfortable to retreat into your shell, but being around other people will make you feel less depressed.
Join a support group for depression. Being with others dealing with depression can go a long way in reducing your sense of isolation. You can also encourage each other, give and receive advice on how to cope, and share your experiences.

Sadly, one in four of us will suffer from depression at some point in our lives, and is caused by an unbalance of certain chemicals in the brain and therefore it isn't a flaw in character, but a flaw in chemistry. There are many kinds of support as different people recover in different ways, there are therapists and psychiatrists, helplines, emails, 7 cups, certain medication, and sometimes just a friend to be there for you.

A good support network is very essential in treating depression. There are countless sources of support out there, from local groups that meet up and discuss their issues, to online resources like 7Cups! Of course, it helps to have help from your doctor, therapists and psychiatrists. Outside of professional groups or individuals - the most important parts of your support network are your loved ones. Friends and family should stand by you and help you through these tough times, and never let you forget that you are loved and wanted.

Through 7Cups you can connect with a trained listener who will simply give you a space to talk. Your doctor may also be able to provide support, either through medication or through therapy/counselling. If you are at school, university or college there may be support available through your institution as well.

There are many support groups for depression. This can be friends, family, or actual support groups within your community. There are also online resources that can help you, as well as kids help phone, or the suicide prevention hotline. Another great source is http://www.yourlifecounts.org, you can write them an email, and a qualified person will respond accordingly. 7CupsofTea is also a great resource to talk to someone who you know will listen.
