If you are in the United States, there is a fairly new organization called called CTL, or Crisis Text Line. It's like suicide hotline, but uses texting from your cell phone rather than voice-to-voice speech. If you are more comfortable with texting, that outlet may be more helpful. For more information, go to crisistextline.org. (:

Whenever you call the suicide hotline they ask you questions on the phone, regarding the situation. They try to help and talk you through some things, however if they feel that you are a danger to yourself and you have an actual plan on doing something, they will definitely (and if not) consider putting you into a mental facility or hospital for your safety however if you don't have a plan, they talk through it with you and they help you analyze everything that is going on, I have personally called the suicide hotline, I didn't get sent to the hospital, but the hotline was super helpful although it may seem scary to call them, nothing bad happened to me however. I believe you can do it and just believe that if you want help that you can do it too!

You will put onto one of the lines lovely operators and after which they will ask you some questions such as your current state and situation. If they feel that you are going to take your life they will pursue further methods of talking you down and sometimes calling or alerting authorities to help you avoid such an awful event. If they feel as though you have calmed down or have changed your mind they will tell you to call any time and to seek help.
