Shouldn't I be able to get over depression on my own?

Unfortunately it's not that simple - depression can be situational and non-situational. Treatments vary accordingly - the point is to not attach this illness as a gauge of your inner strength as an individual or your inability to cope as a sign of weakness. It's like asking can I fix my broken leg on my own? If you have got a sprain, it wouldn't hurt to have someone take a look at it and give you the spray. Healing will be quicker. If it's a fracture, would you merrily be able to hop around pretending it's nothing and you will get over it?

Depression is tough thing to go through and you couldn't be able to get through it on your own sadly. But it's better that you don't so you don't go to drugs, self harm, or even death for help. Just try to accept the help and it does work and trust me, it's so much more better

I used to ask the same question. Based on my personal experience, I would say that getting over depression on your own is a lot harder than if you seek help. I was depressed for 9 months before I reached out for help, and I got over depression after some therapist appointments and telling my friends about my feelings. I would say look for self-help resources (check out the 7cups depression course if you haven't) but also try to reach out to people you trust if at all possible. Understanding people makes it all so much easier.:) --depression survivor

No one should ever have to get over depression by themselves. You could potentially are add more undo stress on yourself. Depression is not something to feel ashamed or embarrassed by.

I have the personnal believe that no one can get out of depression by itself. Professionals, friends, family, even a talk with a stranger can be helpful. Of course a big part of the recovery is done by you, but why doing it alone where you can find help around you ? Every little things are important to get over depression but finding the good poeple to support you is a very big part.

No, not at all. In fact, around 90% of people cannot get over their depression on their own. Most cases of depression need a lot of help from a therapist/psychologist and sometimes medication and sometimes even hospitalisation. Do not think that you are supposed to go through this on your own. Most people cannot and that is ok. It is ok to ask for help for your depression.

It depends on the level of your depression. People forget that it is not just being upset. It is one of the most serious mental problems. It is normal if you cannot overcome it on your own. There is no shame in getting help, it does not make you weak.

Should you be able to get over depression on your own? Of course you may be able to but is it all that great to experience it without seeking help or gaining support from someone? If you have dealt with depression on your own that's great, my only cocerns are that you are getting the proper assistance you need. Everyone deserves someone to hear them out, its better to work along side someone rather than being alone and stressing out. Just as team coach's say, "There is no I in team!" If you work along side someone it will be easier to conquer more things in the future. Do you understand where I'm coming from? Do you have anyone you could work along side with?

I think we can try to controll our emotions and feelings on some level, but after a while getting professional help is highly advised. We aren't supposed to go through hard times all alone, it's really important to reach out for help.

people can work through a variety of things on their own, but everyone has a point at which they feel it would be more constructive and better for their healing to seek professional counsel. And thats perfectly okay. thats what professionals are for. sometimes it is best to seek a professional first thing.
