Based on my experience, Everyone have their own episodes of depression. It depends on how one succumbs to it. The greater the fear the more that you should have other person to be with. Depression isn't something that you get over on your own. It's is cured by having people around you and supporting you on your battles :)

I used to always think that depression was like walking into a deep dark lake and never being able to get out. It can feel like drowning as another user has so accurately described. I have been there... watching everyone else happily rowing about on clear waters while you are wading through sludge, desperately trying to climb out of the shallows. What I have realised though is that your mind is the lake and your feelings are directly related to how clear or how polluted that lake is. Some of us have a clear blue pool that is healthy and fresh. When things are going well, you can float on the top and easily see the sunshine through the water. Some of us have had our water polluted... You can't see the challenges ahead and when they do appear, they are too big and too dark to overcome.... and they drag you down to deeper depths. This pollution can come from anywhere and it can take many, many different forms. Sometimes we pollute our own water and sometimes it just gets dumped on us. Overcoming depression is the clearing of your water... the cleansing of your lake. Some pollution is easy to get rid of, you can take the problem and simply throw it out yourself. But if you are in that deep dark lake and you feel those poisonous waters surrounding you... then sometimes the only way to be free is to ask someone else to help you out of the depths. I always imagine Frodo sinking in the river, his hand disappearing down below, before Samwise reaches down and pulls him up. No one will ever have a 100% pollution free lake and there will always be shadows waiting for you in the waters of your mind... but if you can get to the point where your mind is clear you will be able to overcome those everyday shadows by yourself. And sometimes... most of the time... We need a Samwise to help pull us up before we start breathing again, and start swimming in the clear blue waters of our mind.

No. Depression is a very personal problem, but it's one that can't be faced alone. You need the love and support of others to help take you out of the dark places that seem all too comfortable to stay in. Even if it's just opening up to a family member or venting to a friend, it's important to let others in.

No. Personally speaking, getting over depression on your own is not possible. you need support from friends or family or even a counselor. Talking things out, finding ways to be distracted and to be reminded of the better parts of life is very important. Having a support system to make you realize that whatever it is will get better and to guide you towards a goal which will get you out of a certain mind frame is essential.

You can get over it alone, but it takes far more time than it would if you had someone there to help
