My boyfriend who suffers from depression has asked for space. This has caused my anxiety to sky rocket. How can I help him and myself?

I can relate to both of you. When i'm depressed i just don't want to talk to anyone because i feel like at some point talking just doesn't help and the person in front of me cant understand me through the words, and i tend to be more careless and numb when i'm depressed so people around me feel like i just dont like them anymore. This is my point of view of depression and these may be the causes of your boyfriend wanting some space for a while. He's probably trying to figure out stuff in his mind and doesn't wanna drag you into the mess because he doesn't know how to get out. I'm not sure if this helps with your anxiety but i dont think he asks for space beca he doesn't love you anymore. He simply needs it for himself.

I find it helps to find a grounding exercise that works for you. There are so many techniques but I describe grounding as an activity that brings on mindfulness. Which to me is feeling like I'm speaking from my mind in the moment and not a few seconds ahead or behind my thinking. A grounding technique for me is to sit an truly look at my surroundings or consciously take my anxious energy to a physical activity like biking. It is all about intentional acts and doing so in an effort to improve feeling balanced. And feeling balanced is literally like feeling not tipped one way or another but feeling over ones own toes.
