I am the same way. I think I may have been not depressed for a short period (a few months of my adult life) and then I got hurt and that was ruined, I've always been depressed as far as I can think as a child. It's been with me forever and I'm 48.

I've experienced problems sure as eating disorders, drug addiction, depression, self harm, Family problems, breakups, lost of child, abuse, LGBT+ , etc because I overcame them. When you are depressed you think that you may never get better. I can not get rid of my depression, it is generic for me, but I learned to control it. I feels great to get better. I feel ALIVE. Not everything was perfect, but I knew how to cope in a different way other that drugs or self harm. I feel so much better and my mind is opened to new possibilities when I am not depressed.

I wish I could tell you. But I can't. I'm chronicly depressed and have been on medication over half of my life. Though, I can say this: while on pills, I don't feel as down as I do without them. I can do things like clean, go outside, talk to people, etc without feeling worthless or wondering why I should bother.
