It varies from person to person. Some times a breakdown and letting everything out may work in a good way for some people, while for some it may make their mind more chaotic. To cope with depression crying may help, it may not. BUt to cope with depression the first thing you need to know is it the cause and what it has made your life into. Then you should take the next step which is to look at things more positively, notice small changes. try to accept life in a more positive outlook. If it just keeps worsening a specialist is a must.

I think you ABSOLUTELY NEED TO CRY!! I feel like bottling things up is super unhealthy. Sometimes the feelings just need to come out and crying is the way it manifests itself. I think crying is a way to acknowledge the feelings and start to understand what you are feeling. You can't change what you don't acknowledge. There are other ways to cope with the feelings along with crying but sometimes that initial dumping of the feelings is a great start. IT'S OK TO CRY!! I think as a society we need to stop seeing crying as a sign of weakness and see it as strength. Acknowledging and dealing with our emotions is far healthier then bottling up and suppressing them.
