Yes. All the listeners on this site have gone through an active listening training course, and know what they're doing and the best ways to help. And, if you do encounter an issue with someone, there are people you can contact to report them.

7 Cups of Tea is designed around anonymity. You do not have to share any person information to the listener and the listener doesn't have to share their details with you. This means it is as confidential as possible.

Yes. Listeners are required to complete several steps through the online Active Listening Training Course which helps develop active listening skills. Active Listening is a set of communication skills that demonstrate empathy, compassion, understanding, and respect. Active Listening requires that the listener completely focus on absorbing, comprehending, and reflecting what the speaker is saying. Active Listening is a great technique to help people feel better when they are going through hard times, dealing with loss, struggling with health issues, or just need to vent. Because Active Listening directs all focus towards the speaker, it removes potential sources of stress, conflict and discomfort that can happen in a regular conversation. Additionally, every listener is reviewed and may be subject to a background check to ensure they are friendly, considerate, and competent. Anyone can see how well a listener is doing simply by looking at their review score, and by checking out the badges they've earned. Listeners do not give advice, but are trained to help others come to their own conclusions through active listening skills and resources such as mindfulness excerises (http://www.7cups.com/exercises/mindfulness/?showlist=1), self-help guides (http://www.7cups.com/supportGuides/selfHelpGuides.php), hotline numbers, and more. -- Every chat with a listener is completely confidential and anonymous. You are never required to reveal your name, location, or age (except to clarify whether you are above or under 18 in sign up purposes). If a chat is not going the way you want, you can tell the listener what you expect to get from the chat politley, or you can always end the chat and find a new listener that suits you better. -- Training and guides found on 7cups take medical research into account, as seen here: http://www.7cups.com/about/research.php -- For more information about 7cups, look here: http://www.7cups.com/about/faq.php

It depends on your definition. I can't say wether the professionals are legitimate professionals in the areas in which they say that they are, but I do be,I eve it to be safe, and know that the volunteer listeners aren't paid, and only here to help.

Are we ever 100% safe - probably not. Morbid though, but a airplane could crash into my home right now and take me out. In general though my opinion is that 7Cups is generally safe. Avoid giving identifying information per site guidelines. Site has been around for years, apparently which is a good sign indicative of legitimacy. Look around the website - thousands have been helped. Give it a try and allow yourself to form your own conclusions.
