I don't know if I have depression but if I was pretending to be happy when my friend came over does that mean I don't have depression? And is crying for no reason a sign of depression?

Being on the edge of tears often can be a sign of depression but that's only one. Some other signs are: •feeling sad all the time •not excited about things that used to excite you •feeling worthless

A lot of people who suffer with different mental illnesses put on a brave face for the people around us. A lot of the time we don't want to bring people down or have them question why we are unhappy. If you are struggling with low moods this could be a sign of depression and it is worth looking into to gain some clarity for yourself. But ultimately, putting on a happy face and laughing does not negate any experience of depression you may have. Even when we are struggling with mental illnesses, we are allowed to accept happiness and positivity where we can, in fact we must.

Depression can have many different signs and symptoms. Some of the signs could be hopeless outlook, loss of interest in things you us to enjoy, increased fatigue and sleeping problem (where is be sleeping to much or not sleeping at all), anxiety which include: nervousness, restlessness, or feeling tense; feelings of danger, panic, or dread; rapid heart rate; rapid breathing; increased or heavy sweating; trembling or muscle twitching; trouble focusing or thinking clearly about anything other than the thing you’re worried about, irritability, escapist or risky behavior, substance abuse, or misplaced anger, changes in appetite and weight. Crying for no reason can be a sign of many things, not just depression. Talking to a medical professional is the best way to find out if you are clinically depressed.
