Depression is like falling into an abyss of darkness. You feel this big emptiness in your chest and it hurts. You lose hope in everything, and you feel like you're worth nothing. Like a dementor, all of your happiness and life is sucked out of you. It's like being under a spell of sadness for all eternity.
