It's like not being able to get out of bed in the morning, like there's a giant cloud of unhappiness looming over you all the time. Sometimes, even when you have depression, you'll have really happy moments, but you'll get really depressed again later. It's confusing and mentally taxing to have depression.

Different for different people - some people feel very upset and emotional without proper reason a lot of the time, some people feel very angry, some very inside of themselves and don't want to go out, like to sleep a lot etc. I think it's a totally individual thing.

Describing depression is not an easy task since it varies for everyone. My own experience with depression can be compared with a heavy wet blanket weighing down on the back of my neck. It is a monster that forced me to slouch while I gave it my all to fight it without falling on my knees. This was an external invisible pressure I felt. But it can also be described as an internal feeling: a feeling as if I am made up of Russian dolls. The smallest one in the center is the real me trying to rip out and break free but as the layers move further to the most outer layer, the layer that others (friends, family, strangers) see, it becomes just a shell. Depression can mean intrusive thoughts, negative assumptions, crying without knowing why, saying a lot more "No" than "Yes", lack of energy/enthusiasm, and anticipating the worst. It can feel like standing alone asking an important question aloud but having no one hear nor answer you leaving you feeling distraught. Depression may be a lot of things but it is not weakness and you are stronger than it.

I'd describe depression as a sort of suffocating shroud: in a lot of ways, it paralyzes and makes immobile. Personally I often feel like I'm caught in a sleeping bag whose zipper is caught, clawing at my own body from the inside like I'm trying to escape.

I would describe it as being in a dark room with no ventilation. Somewhere clammy, somewhere I feel extremely alone and somewhere my mind has to much time to think and there is no doorway out.

I would describe depression as being stuck in a deep dark hole, which it seems there is no way out. You just keep falling deeper and deeper in it. Until someone shows you the way out
