A deep hole of despair that seems nearly impossible to get out of. A place of internal darkness, emptiness, numbness. Far worse than normal sadness, depression is a mental illness that affects many. It is the feeling of lowness, constantly. But no matter how hopeless it seems, there IS always hope.

It is a void. An unexplored phenomenon that exits as a barrier between myself and the world. Its deep emptiness of emotion eats my being. A one way mirror displays a crooked smile plastered onto an unknown face. I can hear the echoes that traverse across from the other side, the shouts and the laughter. But my voice is lost in the power of the antigravity, if it even had the power to leave its birthplace to begin with. The wind from the vortex tears tears from my eyes, and they and my voice mingle together, falling into the bottomless pit. I grasp to the slippery glass walls. I can see the stranger staring down at me as I disappear into the darkness.

So different to the 'inescapable hole' feeling people get, it feels to be like dark wasps in my head all the time. Whenever I want to get back to the good version of me, make a sensible decision, focus, be loving or anything else good it feels like the wasps get furious, and I'm left in a circle of being trapped, hating myself, feeling lost, and powerless to change it at all.

Depression can be dark all the time, or it can go from light to dark on and off. Somedays you are fine, other days you may not want to be alive. Depression can have many reasons behind it such as breakups, family issues, stress, and so on. Depression makes it hard to have interests, hobbies, or motivation.

I feel like I'm underwater. I can't see or breathe well. The surface is just a bit above me, but there's a ball and chain wrapped around my ankle and it's dragging me slowly deeper and deeper into the depths. It's like I'm in a black box with only the top showing the outside world. When I'm not feeling depression it's like the water has drained away.

I would describe depression as a constant looming dark shadow over you. You can still move around and do every day things, but everything is slightly darker, tinted because of the shadow. When depression gets really bad, it's like being stranded in the ocean, unable to sink, but unable to swim.

Depression isn't only feeling sad. Depression is the absence of willpower, energy, sense of wellbeing and vitality. Depression is a lonely state of mind, lest you have someone to talk to honestly about it. This is a good place to speak up.
