I don't think you can ever rid yourself of it. I think it is going to be something that is part of who you are. Something you can learn to manage. Some things can trigger it, and you can have rough times. I think overall if you take the steps to manage it, and practice self care, you can learn to live with it. You will learn your triggers. It's about self acceptance. Understanding this is part of who you are and you will have good days and bad days. It is difficult, but I believe it is possible. Everyone deals in their own way. What works for me, may not work for you. The trick is to find what works for you.

It can be treated, yes. I've found that during my depression I don't want to be happy anymore but apparently it's just my mental illness speaking.

Yes you can get rid of depression. I spent almost a year of my life struggling to get through each day and then I decided I had had enough so I thought about the things in my life that made me feel depressed and I slowly began to change each one and feel more positive towards the world around me. I still have bad days but most days are good

Depending on who you are or how bad your situation is how long it takes to get rid of depression can vary. Overall depression is very hard to get rid of because it sticks with you for a long time. What I would suggest is try finding thinga that make you happy. Depression isn't something you snap out of right away, it takes time. Recovery takes time and it's a long journey but maybe there are certain things that can help make that process less difficult. If you haven't already try talking to someone about it. A counselor, therapist, anyone you trust, etc. Get out and enjoy the world. Even on days where you don't feel motivated to do anything just try something small. After you try the little things you can move onto doing bigger things. Having a healthy lifestyle also helps too. Things like eating well, doing some type of exercise(s) can help lighten the mood of things and make you feel better inside and out. Find hobbies. Go for walks, write something, read, create some type of art. Doing things you love will help as well. Doing all of these things won't cure you within 3 days of trying but if you keep doing them you will notice changes in yourself and feel better. Again, recovery takes time but you can do it.
