If you're sad, then you are in the state of being lonely for a moment of time but still able to work and easily do things just a little bit unmotivated. Unlike when depressed, you are in the state of being worthless, lack of interest, purposeless, and anything that involves life will come up to your mind, such us its meaning and how it will be spent, and commonly it is a chronic term that lasts for weeks, months, or even a year and its cause are mainly from tragic events, trauma, and family conflicts.

You can tell you have/getting depression with these symptoms: *NOTE* These are just my symptoms, depression is different for everyone, meaning it can be completely different for you. Find it hard to enjoy hobbies you regularly do Wanting to spend more time alone than usual (Even if you're an introvert like me, you can still not want too speak to others even more than usual) Less appetite A lot of tiredness, pretty much all the time Feeling empty, or as if you dont have a meaning or purpose Feeling as if you have an anchor in your chest, weighing you down all the time. Forcing yourself out of bed, instead of wanting to get out yourself. Wanting to cry a lot more Nothing makes you happy Distancing yourself from others Feeling completely alone, even if you are talking to someone, or in a room with others. Feeling hopeless. Some severe cases: Wanting to hurt yourself. Wanting to end yourself.

When you're sad it's easier to pinpoint what it's about. When you're depressed you sometimes don't know why. You have a hard time seeing how it could get better & maybe even feel like it never will. You might also feel like nothing's worth working at or caring about. Depressed is when the sad takes over all your thinking. You can drown it out though by filling your life with people & activities that make you happy

Depression is a clinical diagnosis, whereas sadness is a regular emotion. However, if you've been feeling sad for a very long time (months), are feeling sluggish/fatigued all the time, and/or have thoughts of suicide, you should see a healthcare professional to examine you for depression.

Being depressed is when you withdraw from the things you enjoyed doing and withdraw from spending time with family and friends and having no desire to do anything for an extended period of time. Being sad is usually temporary and doesn't affect our daily routine.
