To me,being "sad "only happens for a short period time and being "depressed" is like you feel you have no energy to do whatsoever everyday and you lock yourself up from outside.

This week is like a whirlwind. I'm always angry. I eat and also a lot. I frequently snap at other people. I'm tired of it.

Depression is feeling constantly overwhelmed with sadness. This is very different from the everyday blues, which everyone gets. The nice thing is, you get to decide what you call it.

Sometimes it's difficult to pin down your own feels, but there are a few key signs of depression that might let you know if you should seek professional help. If you are feeling extra tired most of the time, and either oversleeping or not sleeping enough, that may be a sign of depression. If you are over or under eating, that is also an area of concern. If you have difficulty doing things that you are normally able to complete with no problem, and you don't want to be around people, those might be signs of something deeper. Most of all, if you are having suicidal thoughts or feelings that you are worthless or life is meaningless, you should seek help.

If everything in your life is functioning well and you keep feeling down for a while, then it can be some temporar depression, loneliness, saddness, melancholy, anything that comes out in abscence of persons/things that make you satisfied. Depression and sadness can be perceived, depending on the situations one finds oneself in. Sometimes you can not see your depression, because you chose to ignore it, work and continue with your life, but sometimes the feelings just comeout on the surface and you are not aware of what is going on, so in those cases, a nice talk will probably work. Whatever the reason or occassion gthat triggered saddness or depression, I honestly do not reccommend any pills or therapies, but only the conversation with yourself, making thing even with your past and being able to face the upcomming situations with positive attitude.

Depression can sometimes feel the same as sadness, but it will last much longer. If you have felt sad for two weeks or more you might have depression. Some other symptoms of depression are: loss of motivation, change in eating or sleeping habits and feeling empty. If you have one or more of those you may be depressed.
