Clinical depression is best diagnosed by a mental health professional who would ask you about the severity and length of your symptoms, in addition to delivering therapy/counseling. You can also discuss it with your GP.

Depression will last longer than just general sadness. A person might be sad for a day or a month due to any reason byt depression is a state of mind. It often persists for a very long time and brings along the repulsiveness to do anything from taking a bath to eating to getting up from bed. Depression might lead the affected person to have suicidal thoughts or no thoughts at all which is seldom the case if a person is just the sad. Depression includes sadness but sadness doesn't include depression.

Depression, for me, doesn't end. When I'm sad, I can feel it. I scream or cry, the loneliness is real. When I'm depressed though, I lack everything. I can't feel happy, or sad, or angry. I am just barely existing.
