You need to ask yourself why you feel this loss of interest! Depression comes with many other symptoms and it's important to get to the bottom of what is causing these feelings. Is it only dreaded tasks that are being avoided or is it the things that were once enjoyed that are being pushed off as well? Asking yourself these questions can help you get to the bottom of your problem.

Are you experiencing any other symptoms of depression? If you are, your lack of motivation may be more due to depression than general laziness.

loss of motivation is definitely a symptom of depression. I guess to figure this out you would have to try and remember the kind of person you were before your depression really hit you. Were you motivated then? Inspired? Wanting to do things and get things done all the time? Having goals? etc. Or maybe you could talk to your GP and get on antidepressants, ones that work best for you ofcourse, and see how it works and affects you.

I ask myself this question a lot. Is it because you are down about something, or do you feel like you can do it, but you just don't want to?

In my experience, If you get up to do an activity or something else, (jogging, job hunting, coffee with a friend, etc.) Yet you're still have very negative thought.. feel like giving up or just wishing you were elsewhere?.. Is a sign you're unmotivated from depression.

I think the difference between being depressed and being lazy is that when you're lazy you want to do something. You can fantasize about it yet you just can't bring yourself to do it

That's a hard one. If you're waking up and feeling unmotivated even after a good rest then maybe it's because of depression. If you used to be very active or interested in something and you've lost interest or motivation to do it then it is most likely from depression.
