There are a lot of ways somebody can become depressed! Sometimes it's environmentally caused, sometimes biologically caused, and sometimes a mix of the two. Major depressive disorder involves a lack of serotonin production in the brain. Serotonin is the chemical that helps us stay positive and productive, which is why depression saps not just mood, but motivation and energy and senses. The best thing to do if you're feeling depressed is to reach out to a mental health professional. However, if these resources aren't available to you, community support is great. There are also guides on ways to take care of yourself and increase your brain's serotonin production if you don't have access to medication.
Environmentally caused depression can be a result of stress, guilt, or the negativity of others. If you're in a situation that's causing you a lot of stress, be it at home or work, it's easy to become consistently anxious and exhausted. In these cases, it's best to look into different self-care tips, and to try to work through as many of the environmental problems as you can.
