Realize that you're using it as an excuse, be honest with yourself; the first step is admitting you have a problem. I fell into this trap before, and it wasn't until I took responsibility for my actions that I realized: I had the power, and simply chose in be out of control.

I've found that using the label of being "depressed" as an excuse results from me not wanting to take responsibility for the choices I'm making. When I say to myself "Yes, I could've done better" as opposed to "I'm sorry, I'm just depressed," I feel as if I'm getting back the power I somehow stripped from myself. Depression is really rough, but I've learned that I don't have to let it take my power to choose differently.

Depression should make you feel more numb about doing anything actually more than getting you back into bad old habits, maybe each time you do these bad habits remember that if you're depressed, you shouldn't be even doing them as you should feeling numb about doing anything actually.

Life is how you make it. If you make your life depressing then you will get no where. With the proper supports in place, friends and family inclusive then your life will get better. Do not let yourself down. If you're ever in need of a friend or someone to talk to just ask.

You have to push forward and try new things, or healthy old things you used to like doing. Being "depressed," shouldn't be a label anyway.

Depression is a very broad term, and is often misleading people when they simply are struggling with sadness. We can use the excuse that it is a new year so time to refresh yourself from using negative connotations to explain how you are feeling when this is not your feelings all the time. You may be depressed but you can also be enthuastic, excited and have fun at times. Rather than saying 'I am 'This' say "I feel like This', But i want to feel more like this'. For example you feel depressed, but you are not going to let this define who you are. Therefore there is room for trial and error of chnage and improvement :)
