How can I work and have depression at the same time? The depression decimates my concentration to the extent that I cannot complete my work projects on time; co-workers are pulling the extra weight because my work needs to be done before they can start their parts.

Maintaining any type of job while struggling with depression is hard. However, your health should come before the job. The better handle you have on your illness, the better you will be able to perform at work. Also, it looks better to an employer and your co-workers if you are attempting to manage your depression so that you can get all your work done. I'm sure what you've tried so far, but a combination of talk therapy and medication tends to be depression's most effective treatment.

That's why depression is recognized as a disability by most governments. It disables you! You basically need to get some kind of treatment (therapy and/or medication and/or fixing problems in your life that are making you depressed) or else you won't really be able to work, at least not effectively.

I think it is really important to talk to people around you when you are struggling with depression. Including co workers and senior members of staff can enable you to stay in employment by making changes based in what is going on for you at the time.
