You'll know your depressed when you always feel down or sad even with friends.you may have enjoyed reading but now just don't want to even try anymore.you might sleep all the time.sometimes you get angry for no reason. alot of things weigh in to being depressed these are just a few.

If you don't want to see your doctor, which is understandable, maybe take some screening tests online and keep a journal to see how consistent your feelings are

You can know whether or not you are really depressed based on the symptoms. Did the sadness come suddenly or after an event? Depression usually doesn't have a cause.

Depression is often characterized by often feeling of sadness. Dark, negative thoughts seem to never leave your mind. You can not eat or you eat too much. Also, sleep is hard to achieve or you are waking up through the night.
If depression is more developed you find little joy in things you used to love.
