Be accepting towards them and don`t try to change them with ideas. Be supportive towards their recovery and let them know that you are here to listen or help if they are struggling.

I look at depression as the ultimate sapping of one's strength and ability. It feels brutally difficult to get motivated, get energy, or plot a path forward.
It's the thief of hope and opportunity. And given how closely it's associated with anxiety, it places those within its grasp in a very perilous position of not being able to take action that can meaningfully improve lives.
And sadly, it continues to be misinterpreted. It's not something one "snaps out of".
Be supportive, listen without judgment, and cheer on any small step that someone makes. Because those steps can be enormous for the individual who is living with depression.
