Does anyone else experience moments (lasting 10 secs- few mins) of severe depression where you feel life is meaningless and feel outside your body? If so, what does that mean and why is it happening?

Yes, I experience this type of severe depressive disassociation. I find it means that our body becomes so overwhelmed with sadness, grief, and pain that the only way to protect itself is to separate the consciousness from the body. This can result in an “out of body” sensation where you feel like you’re on the outside looking in, lose track of time, sense of self, or feel like you are in a lucid dream or nothing is real. After coming out of this episode, it may trigger anxiety or panic attacks. I find grounding exercises to be the most helpful treating these episodes. If you are having dissociative episodes frequently, please seek professional help.
