I believe it is easy to fall into a routine where you just let it keep settling, and somehow "stop" fighting it, Afterall it does that to you, but it's definitely not the right choice as it most likely will just continue acting as a black hole, sucking you in more and more.

Not always. Some people don't feel like they can get better from depression. Lots of people wish that they could but feel that they don't have the capabilities or the tools at hand in order to pull themselves away from depression. For some people they feel that it is the end of the line and that nothing, or no one will be able to pull them from the spot they are in.

I would hope so. The feeling that depression leaves in your life is one I hope that no one has to experience. It may seem like an endless hope to get better but there are ways.

Not always. It depends on the person. At first I didn't want to get better but then when I was feeling happy one day, I wanted that same happiness overall instead of being depressed all the time.

Not all people want to get better from depression. Some feed off of their own depression to survive without noticing its only making it worse.

There is really no way to know. We can't say that there are no people who want to stay depressed. The real question is why would anyone want to stay depressed? It's hard to think of reasons because depression, for most people, is very painful emotionally. It is hard to imagine why anyone would want to stay in that emotional state. But there may be some people who have come to rely on others and are too afraid to face the idea of taking care of themselves. For example, I used to watch a show called My 600 lb Life. The purpose of the show was that people were going in to have gastric bypass surgery. They had come to the point in their lives when they couldn't take anymore and wanted to get to a healthy weight. Prior to surgery, the people had been completely reliant on their families to do everything for them. Even being washed and using the bathroom was assisted. Every person I ever saw on the show was depressed. Some of the people had been living with their parents for most of their lives. I'm telling this story because, very few of the people followed the pre-surgery diet the doctor recommended. After the surgery, most of the people did not follow the post-surgery diet they were supposed to follow for the rest of their lives, and they did not continue to lose weight. They basically ended up right where they started. They continued to live assisted by their families, and their lives did not improve. Now, obviously I cannot say whether or not they wanted to stay depressed, but they did not have enough willpower or intention to get better. I am not saying that getting rid of depression is a matter of willpower. Anyone who knows anything about depression knows that's not true. But the depressed person does have to put some effort into working with their treatment team to take the necessary steps to help make themselves better. Changing your life in a major way can be scary. Changing jobs or changing houses can really shake you emotionally. Sometimes it seems easier to stay where you are. In this sense, maybe there are people who want to remain depressed.

Sometimes depression is exhausting--so exhausting that even the thought of recovery may sound draining. Its not that the individual doesn't want happiness--sometimes depression can be so engulfing that happiness seems futile. That's why there are many alternatives available--speaking out to friends and family, seeking counseling and professional assistance, even medical interventions.

My opinion is, that everyone wants to get out of depression. The more important fact is, that many people don't know they are into depression or are denying that they have one. And its hard to come up with the power to get started working to get better from the depression.

Personally, I think everyone wants to get better. However, it's not always an easy thing to do. So after trying and trying to get better and failing every time it can be really disheartening and make you not want to do anything and that basically can stop you from having the energy to carry on trying.
