If you're not comfortable telling people you're depressed then you don't need to share that information! It is totally up to you. I think sharing your depression can help you talk out your feeling and maybe find a support system that can help you cope with your depression. Most importantly, I do not think anyone should ever be ashamed to talk about their depression.

Yes. You should tell somebody you trust that you're depressed. You don't need to tell everyone unless you want to.

You never have to explain yourself to anyone you don't want to. It's no ones business but your own what is going on with you.

You only need to tell people that you're depressed if they can help you in some way. Parents, teachers, coaches, etc. Not just anyone because that can turn into a mess.

Opening up and letting people know that you are depressed puts you in a vulnerable situation, but at the same time it allows for the healing process to start.

Yes, realising and discussing depression is one of the most important steps to recovery, though it should be dealt with caution. Confide in people you trust and not to someone who doesn't care. I had a friend help me through the toughest time of my life where I was ostracized in school, had family issues as well as a long distance relation. Talking about what I felt and how I felt to a listener helped no bound. Those chats helped me get out of the mood slowly but surely and I'm forever grateful to that wonderful friend.

YES! But tell the right people. Talking about your emotions is the key to helping you cope with your depression. Putting a label on it and being able to identify it allows you to avoid circumstances which may deepen the depression. Being able to "get it off your chest" may not be the cure, but being able to recognize it opens a whole new world of solutions. Some people need medication, some need mediation, some need meditation. We all cope differently.

There is no NEED to do that, but when you are really struggeling with suicidal thoughts there should be someone to take care of you.
Councelling a therapist is also really helpful! But if you tell someone else depends on how you think about it. You can but don't have to.

Telling people is not needed, but can help if you absolutely trust them. Seeing a therapist, or some other licensed professional is very helpful.
