Absolutely. Privilege has no correlation with your emotions. We are all allowed to feel depressed regardless of our background. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Yes, you most certainly do. Saying "you're not allowed to be depressed because so many people have it worse than you" is like saying "you aren't allowed to be happy because there are people that have it better than you" It isn't fair to compare problems. Regardless of your situation, your feelings are valid.

Yes, of course! Depression has nothing to do with privilege. Many privileged people feel depressed, and you don't have any more or less of a right to feel depressed if you're privileged.

I think that if we were to be truthful, those of who struggle financially have at some point thought " If only I had more and could afford to just get by....maybe then this depression wouldn't be destroying my life. " But then a few moments later we realize that depression is an illness and no respecter of a person's finances, gender, or age. If you really are finding that your status in life has you berating yourself for being depressed, perhaps you should fight against this reoccurring self judgement by using your status to a difference. Sometimes, privilege is an opportunity.

Everybody has the right to feel depressed. Just because you have most things that other people do not have doesn't doesn't mean you don't have the right to be depressed. That's like saying because you're poor you can't be happy but in fact you can be.

Yes you do have a right to feel depressed - or feel any other way- regardless of socioeconomic status, "color," gender, support system, family support, or anything else. You have a right to your feelings and comparing yourself to others who may not "have it as good as you" does not take away the vilidity or realness of what you are feeling. 😊

Everyone's problems matter. And just because someone else may have 'worse' ones, doesn't magically make ours go away.
