It's possible to experience depression as severe apathy and fail to identify it as depression because you associate depression with intense sadness rather than with numbed emotions.

Absolutely. Depression can be a mood, a spiral of negative thoughts. One big aspect of depression and one reason it goes without diagnosis so often is people don't know they have it. Accepting you have depression and going to get help for it is half the battle to beating it.

Yes, because depression came all about sadness at first but then it becomes so often and used up that you are not aware of the impact of sadness it has on you anymore but you still take it as the one true sadness you learned before. but as what they said that too much of everything is sad and change is not change but an evolution, on this point it is sadness evolved into depression before you know it.

It is possible. There are some signs that are visible but you may not connect it to depression. Best thing to do is to talk to a professional who could listen to your experiences and reasons and correctly diagnose you and provide you with the help or support you need
