Change can be difficult and it's a total abolition of all the dreams of the future you had with that person. It is definitely over and we humans have a hard time letting go of things we had, especially if we're sentimental about them. We're often more nostalgic about what was, then what is. More over you're falling free, all is new, which can be stressful and exhiting and you loose a part of yourself, the part where you buildt yourself around them and have to rebuild now, which, again takes some courage but has many options too. Take care and take your time. It will get better.

It hurts because you are losing someone you care for, love and are intimate with. Many times you feel they are your other half. You have someone who use to be your friend, other half and rare, special companion, someone who seems irreplaceable. Then they become nothing, just blank. You're left with the empty hole, where they once resided. They leave and they take a part of you with them.

Break ups hurt that much because metaphorically: Love is like a drug, when you withdraw from it, you'll feel the side effects. After a break up, you're basically prying yourself apart from something that plays quite a major part in your daily life. Whether you're the one who breaks ups with your ex-partner or vice versa, there was a heartbreaking decision of leaving someone whom you've given your heart to. By giving your heart to that person, it would mean giving trust and sharing many personal and unique experiences. By letting that go, you can only imagine why it would be that painful. The fact that you transitioned to lovers to strangers in just a single can also be a very huge thing to take in.

Because you love that person so much and it is never easy to let go of of someone you are used to be with; there will always be a hole inside your heart for that person and there could be no way to "un-love" a person.
