Forgetting can be tricky because at some point you'll remember. If you realize that your past is how you became you, then you can understand yourself better. By acknowledging it you can grow, you can heal. it's not easy but neither is trying to forget.

Forgetting is hard and sometimes not the most effective way to deal with bad memories or experiences. Sometimes we need to work through just forgiving ourselves and know that we are strong, capable people who have endured, overcome, and are in a place now to not let the past have control over our present or future. In time, certain feelings, thoughts, sensations may fade. Ultimately, it is up to you to recognize the strength within you and break your mental cage of the past. You are not there now. You are not that same person. You are the you of today and tomorrow.

There is no "one size fits all" option when it comes to handling the past. These things are tailor made to each individual person. I personally found that picking up a hobby and letting myself get distracted helped a lot. You might begin to slowly see harmful things fade back into the past where they belong.

From my personal experience, you can't forget bad memories of your past. But, you can accept them as a part of your life and not let it define who you are and your future. Do not try to push the pain down, you have to allow yourself to feel it in order to heal from it. If you have to cry, cry. If you need to talk it out, talk. Until it doesn't hurt anymore. Everything heals with time.

It's important to keep your memories, both good and bad; they have both shaped you and had an impact on who you have become. It can be difficult when you remember the bad things, but instead of forgetting them, acknowledge them for what they are, then put them aside. It's hard not to let the bad memories have an impact on your present-self, but with time and with practice, you can let your memories stay in the past and move on with your life.

Instead of forgetting them try to look back at them as life lessons with each one being a chapter in your story that strengthened, molded, shaped, and formed who you are today.

In a simple way, i would say that the best way to forget about bad memories is living your life and creating new memories. Commit yourself into something, a book, a hobby or something that you really enjoy. It's the best way to keep your mind away from it.
