Anxiety is a way of our brain to protect us against potential threats. When you are triggered, your fight or flight response kicks in to allow you to defend yourself or run away from something which might be dangerous to you. The good news is, often these things are not actually real dangers, so we can teach our brains not to be triggered by learning Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a trained therapist.

Anxiety is like the Carmen San Diego of emotional disorders: you never know when or where she'll be. Joking aside though, anxiety can be a crippling feeling when it does strike and most of us find it difficult to even describe a tenth of what we feel when it happens. Luckily, modern research mixed with some old medicines have been able to offer sufferers with a variety of information and techniques to combat this nasty disorder. The first step to engaging in anything is education. I would highly suggest reading more about anxiety and what doctors and researchers have been discovering about its links with other parts of the brain. This will help de-mystify anxiety and shed light on the reality of the situation. Secondly, I have found that seeking professional counseling with a person who specializes in anxiety is an invaluable means of managing your emotions. Not only are they able to help you organize your thoughts, but they can teach you ways to handle and work through anxiety attacks. It's hard to understand why anxiety hits you when it does. You could be in a very good place and then like tidal wave in your chest you're floored by a sensation of fear and anxiety. We can't always predict it. The best thing that we can do is try to understand it better and build up practices of management. I know that when an attack occurs you feel like there's no hope; that your forever condemned to a life of misery and defeat. But the truth is that anxiety isn't a demon. It's not a supernatural force that has cursed your life, even though it could certainly be described as one. It's a medical condition that people have suffered from for hundreds of years. You're not alone in this fight. You can find an excellent support group right here in 7 Cups, and even local facilities offer support to people with depression and anxiety. It's a daily struggle, and if I were granted one wish it would be to rid anxiety/ depression from everyone who is trapped in it's grasp. I guess, the silver lining here is that you gain a kind of strength from experiencing such a tumultuous emotion on a regular basis. You can understand suffering in a different way and have an empathy towards other people, that unfortunately most seem to lack. You're brave and courageous in your own right.

personally i see my anxiety like a bad habit, i don't want it but its really hard to leave it behind. There are moments though where i sometimes forget and that usually happens when i'm having fun with friends or family, or even when im just by myself watching a movie, doing something i love. So maybe my anxiety is always with me to remind me to have fun,do what i love, and be with the people that care about me.
