It can sometimes seem that people are staring at us. Being hyper-alert can place us in a state of intense awareness that can be overwhelming. The simple gaze of another might seem like a glare. We can feel like we're on a stage when those staring are being so obvious that we question our actions, looks and character. I myself have felt this way and at times have convinced myself that I have been imagining it (situation depending), other times my suspicions are justified. When I have felt anxious, I have been attuned to those around me and learned to rationalise when my mind makes me think I am being stared at. When others have been unkind and stared at me to get my attention, I have found my inner strength to guide me. Acceptance of my self has been a saviour - mostly in my adult life.

This question makes an assumption; is it possible that everyone is not staring at you? Mathmetically, you surely agree that it seems very implausible. How do you feel thinking that everyone is staring at you? When did you first start thinking this? When was the last time you did not think this? If you think that you are being watched or constantly stared at, you may be suffering from some paranoia, which is not uncommon and very real and very treatable. It's okay. You can experience paranoia and simultaneously be a strong, brilliant, respectable person. Asking others to validate your experience is a great first step. Being honest with yourself and open-minded to the possibility that you are experiencing paranoia is a great road to travel down. It can be difficult to travel alone; it's okay to reach out for support here on 7cups, or from a professional. Good luck

No they are not . And if they are , they are just curious , they themselves are unaware of the stare. Don't let it bother you and if it is bothering you very much , stare back. They will look away cause they will feel uncomfortable.

The Facebook "Seen" message gives me a lot of anxiety! When I see that the person has "seen" the message, but does not reply, I start thinking about all the possible reasons why they would 'ignore' me... Does anyone else feel this? If so, how do you cope?
