Various things can cause people to get this unfortunately. I myself have it as a combination of having depression and an under active thyroid. Some people get it through terrible life experiences etc... As long as you know how to control it to the best that you can, everything won't be so bad. Just breath and try to think about things logically :) They really aren't as bad as they same in the end.

There are a variety of reasons, for the cause varies from person to person. It's thought that there's both a genetic and environmental component to anxiety, though one's environment seems to play the biggest role. Anxiety can also be triggered in response to intense trauma or hardship; I myself experienced a temporary state of anxiety in response to trauma, which resolved as I healed from the initial trauma. If you're interested in why you have anxiety, consider taking this question up with your physician.

I think a better question to ask is this: what good can come of it? When one person struggles, another should come to his aid. It is an opportunity for people to be there for one another. Sometimes people just need a little help from each other.

Multiple reasons. If many people in your family have an anxiety disorder you are then predisposed to develop one. If you do not properly manage stress that can lead to an anxiety disorder. It all depends on the person and the situation.

The bottom answer is, each reason why is specific to each person, and their experience in life. I'm not so certain that any two anxiety disorders are completely alike, like a snowflake argument.
However, a standard model for inducing an individual, human or animal subject, to feel anxiety, or to progress into full blown personality disorder is, to isolate it. The greater the time isolated, the greater the degree of stress, anxiety and general fear the individual experiences. Most animals in captivity show disordered personalities from their wild counterparts.
Once an individual fears being alone, their fears about how and why the function or frequency of isolation, and their inability to control or affect it, leads to more uncertainty and, perhaps, anxiety.
