It is my personal belief that all our adult life fears, traits and afflictions have deep roots in our childhood. The way we were brought up has a major impact on how we think, feel, behave and rationalize for the rest of our lives. For me, personally, my anxiety comes from being brought up in a very unstable home environment. My self-esteem suffered a lot and I hardly had any friends. My parents fought perennially and my emotional growth was ignored completely. I attribute a lot of my personality to that aspect of my life.

I believe that there many different reasons why people have anxiety. Your reason for having anxiety may differ from the reason why someone else has anxiety. There isn't one set answer as to why one may suffer from anxiety.

Anxiety occurs when your brain assess a situation and decides that you are in physical or psychological danger; it produces adrenaline (the fight or slight hormone) which causes symptoms like increased heart rate, sweating, crying, shaking limbs, choking feeling/shortness of breath, dizziness etc. Anxiety can be useful, like if you're walking alone at night it can make you more aware of your surroundings and ready to respond to unexpected situations but unprovoked anxiety attacks can also occur when we encounter an unusual or confronting situation or something that makes us feel threatened or uncomfortable, even if that threat is only perceived and not necessarily real.
