Does it cause significant impairment in your life? If that is so, it'd be best to seek out professional help.
But being afraid to one degree or another is normal. In fact, there is something called anticapatory anxiety. All that means is that in thinking about all the things that could happen or go wrong, your anxiety level shoots up and affects your performance, thus reinforcing the fear.
Try and take a deep breath, or try some mindfullness exercises such as grounding to make the approach easier.

Remember that no human being, no matter who they are, is anything more than what you are. At the end, we are all the same incredibly smart animal who likes to feel superior. A nifty trick we use in theater when we get stage fright is to imagine our audience completely naked or wearing funny costumes :) .
People in general are less intimidating and much more reachable when we don't take them too seriously.

I'm the same way (severe social anxiety). I can't do live chats yet, because posting in "real time" is so hard for me. Just post in forums and such to start, then move on to live conversations. Keep trying to talk to people. Practice makes perfect. Also, if the stress is too much to handle, it's okay to leave a conversation (chat, phone, even in person). Eventually, you'll feel less stressed and awkward.

If you can somehow learn to be at ease with yourself, you will be at ease with others. I think we only feel shaky around others when we feel shaky with who we are -- because deep down, your nature is love, wisdom, peace, joy, and who would be ashamed of that?
A great way to help with this is meditation, breathing exercise, and yoga. Especially when you do service as the outbreath, these practices connect you to your deepest, most sincere self. And I guarantee you: When you find that, you'll have nothing to be ashamed of. Try and see, okay?

It really depends on the issue. I haven't a clue, of what you're actually dealing with. I *personally* find writing my thoughts out, to be the most helpful. Do what works for you. It may take some time to figure out just what that will be. Sometimes it's difficult carrying it all, on your own. Until you discover the right people, keep together. Don't lose yourself in the havoc of your mind. :) GL

The Facebook "Seen" message gives me a lot of anxiety! When I see that the person has "seen" the message, but does not reply, I start thinking about all the possible reasons why they would 'ignore' me... Does anyone else feel this? If so, how do you cope?
